About 20,000 people are expected at the Web Summit Rio, one of the biggest global technology events, which starts this Monday (1st) at the Riocentro convention center. Topics such as data sciences, education, e-commerce, the future of work and climate change will be on the agenda of the meeting, which runs until the next 4th. should inject R$ 1.2 billion into the city’s economy over the next six years. The city will host six editions of the event, until 2028, with the potential to attract more than 800,000 people. During the period of stay of tourists in Rio for this year’s event, the projection is for an entry of R$ 66.9 million, considering the average stay of foreign tourists, from 6 to 8 days; domestic tourists, 5.8 days; and three days of expenses for the city’s residents who will participate in the event. This will be the first time the event takes place outside Europe, and more than 500 investors and 750 startups are expected. Previously, the event used to take place in Lisbon, Portugal. Among the speakers will be representatives of technology companies from different sectors, such as Airbnb, Google, GitHub, QuintoAndar and Nubank, as well as media outlets, social movements and third sector organizations.
