The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, said this Wednesday (3rd) that the fight against corruption continues to be a priority, although the federal government, after the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has “put an end to the spectacularization” of actions carried out by bodies subordinate to the Executive Branch, such as the Federal Police (PF). “On the fight against corruption, what has changed [em comparação a governos anteriores] it was spectacular. We put an end to corruption in the fight against corruption,” said the minister when attending a meeting of the Financial Inspection and Control Commission of the Chamber of Deputies this morning. Dino was questioned on the subject by Deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Pode-PR). The parliamentarian said that, on past occasions, Dino did not mention the fight against corruption when listing the government’s priorities. “I was surprised not to see the fight against corruption among the government’s priorities. Although there are several people being investigated, prosecuted or even convicted of corruption within [da atual equipe de] government, I believe that this should not be a taboo. It needs to be treated as a priority of the State, not of the government”, commented the former prosecutor of Operation Lava Jato. Dino replied that operations continue to happen every day. “Today there was an operation against corruption”, replied the minister, referring to Operation Venire, which the PF launched today to investigate the alleged adulteration of vaccination cards through the insertion of false data in the Single System database. of Health (SUS). One of the targets of the action is former president Jair Bolsonaro. “What we do not want and will not do is violate legal and constitutional guarantees. Obviously, the fight against corruption remains a priority, but we do not do that a flag of politics. We don’t need that, because our government has projects, proposals and ideas and respects due legal process”, added the minister, ensuring that interested parties only need to follow their accounts or those of the PF on social media to confirm that “many anti-corruption operations” continue to take place regularly. Arrest in second instance Dino also commented that it is not up to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to legislate on the possibility of executing arrests in second instance, that is, before the judgment of appeals to judicial decisions first grade have been completed. “There is a constitutional guarantee regarding the presumption of innocence,” said Dino, still addressing Dallagnol. “I know that you have a contrary position. Well, you are a deputy and, if you disagree with the Constitution, you can propose an Amendment to the Constitution [PEC] to the National Congress. And if [o Parlamento] understand that people can be arrested without a final and unappealable decision, that they vote to have what you defend – and that is not the position of the Supreme Court or the Constitution. The same goes for the privileged forum, which is in the Constitution and is not an issue that we, in the ministry, can change. It is the National Congress that changes the Constitution.” Commissions Dino was invited to participate in the meeting of the Financial Inspection and Control Commission of the Chamber of Deputies to answer questions from parliamentarians on various pre-agreed topics. Part of them, already dealt with on March 28, when the minister participated in a public hearing at the Chamber’s Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee. Among the subjects to be discussed today is the minister’s visit, on March 15, to the non-governmental organization Redes da Maré, in Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro. He participated in the launch of the 7th edition of the bulletin Right to Public Security in Maré. The minister will also discuss the arrests of vandals and coup plotters who, on January 8, invaded the National Congress, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court, in addition to any measures adopted by federal public security agencies after the Landless Movement anticipate that it would promote new land occupations throughout Brazil during the month of April, when, traditionally, the movement carries out acts to demand agrarian reform.
