Businessmen, specialists and government representatives meet this week in Rio de Janeiro to discuss the future of the country’s nuclear sector. The NT2E – Nuclear Trade & Technology Exchange opened this Wednesday (3rd) and will run until Friday (5th). “We have a very big mission: to convince the government that we can be one of the biggest players in the world, after all we have the sixth largest uranium reserve in the world, we know how to produce the fuel and we have the capacity to do so. So what’s missing? Do”, said the president of the Brazilian Association for the Development of Nuclear Activities (Abdan), Celso Cunha. During the opening of the event, Cunha highlighted that the ten-year energy plan in Brazil foresees the construction of a new plant with a production capacity of 1 GW of energy, in addition to the conclusion of Angra 3, the third unit of the nuclear complex of Angra dos Reis, in southern Rio. He also highlighted the importance of nuclear technology for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer.
