Banks will no longer offer the method of payment via Credit Order Document (DOC) for individuals and companies until February 29, 2024. The announcement was made by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) this Thursday (4). According to the entity, the decision was motivated by the lack of public interest that, over the years, reduced the use of this means of payment, created in 1985 by the Central Bank. Users have preferred faster and cheaper ways of transferring money, especially after the launch of Pix in November 2020. According to a survey carried out by Febraban on means of payment, in 2022, transactions via DOC totaled 59 million operations, only 3.7% of the total of 63.07 billion operations carried out. Pix, which has no cost and is instantaneous, leads operations in Brazil. It is followed by other lower-cost payment methods for customers. Data released by the Central Bank points out that, in 2022, bank transactions were: 24 billion via Pix; 18.2 billion by credit card; 15.6 billion, debit card; 4 billion for boletos; 1.01 billion via TED; 202.8 million, checks; 59 million via DOC. TEC In addition to DOC, Febraban announced that Special Credit Transfer operations (TEC), carried out exclusively by companies to pay benefits to employees, will be extinguished. The president of Febraban, Isaac Sidney, says that the objective is to improve convenience for bank customers, after observing its cost-effectiveness. “With the emergence of the PIX and the high level of bank transactions with lower fees, both TEC and DOC are no longer the first option for customers, who have given preference to PIX, as it is free and instantaneous”. End of operations in February 2024 Banks have until February 29, 2024 to extinguish DOC and TEC operations. And customers (individuals or legal entities) will be able to carry out DOC operations until January 15, 2024, with scheduling until the system closes for these operations (02/29/2024). Currently, each bank establishes the amount charged for these two transactions. The bank transaction, both TEC and DOC, has a maximum value of R$ 4,999.99. The operation can be scheduled to benefit another account, including that of a different bank. Transactions made through the DOC are carried out one day after the bank receives the transfer order. While TEC guarantees the transfer of resources until the end of the same day that the payment order was given. Another characteristic is that TEC allows the transfer of funds to different accounts at the same time, which is not possible for DOC opt-ins.
