The federal government resumes, this Monday (8), the Brasil Sorridente program. The sanctioning ceremony of Bill 8,131/2017, which establishes the National Oral Health Policy, within the Unified Health System (SUS), is scheduled for 11 am at Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília. “Today, I have the joy of resuming Brasil Sorridente, an oral health policy that brought dignity to many Brazilians who were able to solve toothaches, eat normally and smile”, posted president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his Twitter profile . Package of programs On Saturday (6), Lula had already commented on the return of the program. According to him, the relaunch completes the package of social programs, considered a reference in past administrations and will be resumed by the federal government. “We are resuming, putting into operation, all the public policies that worked in our governments”, he said. For the president, the approval of the bill – which includes the National Oral Health Policy in the Organic Health Law – will guarantee “universal, equitable and continuous access”. Brasil Sorridente was created in 2004, during Lula’s first term as President of the Republic. Data from the Ministry of Health indicate that, in ten years, more than 80 million people were assisted by the program, receiving various types of dental care.
