A man was hanged until he was unconscious by agents of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) of São Paulo in Cracolândia, central region of the city, this Monday (8). In the act made by TV Brasil, it is possible to observe that the man was arrested and then tried to resist arrest. At that moment, he is immobilized by four guards. First, one of the agents tries to perform a hanging from behind, but the blow is unsuccessful and the two fall to the ground on a pile of garbage. Once on the ground, the guard squeezes the man’s neck with his hand. Then another agent twists the man’s arm, while others hold his legs and put pressure on his head and body. He is kept that way until he passes out. He is then taken away in a GCM car. Periodic actions The arrest took place during actions to clean up the streets occupied by homeless people who use drugs in the central region of São Paulo. Since May last year, the concentration – known as Cracolândia -, which was located in specific points, was dispersed from Praça Princesa Isabel and started to wander in smaller groups through the streets of the neighborhoods of Santa Ifigênia, República and Campos Elíseos. At these new points, which now vary according to the day, periodic street cleaning actions are carried out. At that time, the municipal guards also approach and search the people who are in the area. Long queues are formed for people to be subjected to a search. Some objects, considered prohibited by the city hall, are confiscated. Metropolitan Civil Guard division inspector Marco Antonio Gomes spoke to TV Brasil about the man who was arrested unconscious. “The individual threw a glass bottle at the garrison. He even cut a policeman. He was identified, he was carrying a bladed weapon”, he justified regarding the approach. Regarding the need for the man to be immobilized by four agents until he passed out, the inspector stated that, due to the effect of drugs, the boy showed “uncommon strength. One person could not handcuff him, nor two”, he claimed. The victim’s identity has not been revealed. Nor his state of health. The Agência Brasil report contacted the São Paulo city hall and is awaiting a response.
