Federal police arrested this Tuesday (9), on the north coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, one of the suspects of coordinating the criminal attacks that took place in Rio Grande do Norte, in March of this year. According to the Federal Police (PF), the 40-year-old man was arrested in Rio das Ostras, where he resided. The PF also reported that he is appointed as one of the leaders of the Potiguar criminal faction responsible for the attacks and has been considered a fugitive since 2018, after being convicted of the crimes of qualified homicide, robbery and reception. In early April, the Civil Police of the state of Rio arrested, in the west zone of Rio, another suspect of being one of the criminal faction leaders. According to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense of Rio Grande do Norte, between the 14th and the 24th of March, there were more than 300 attacks, which resulted in the death of a trader. Police actions in response to the attacks had resulted in the deaths of 14 suspected of involvement in the attacks, as of early April.
