The Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases (INI/Fiocruz) and the executive board of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) inaugurated this Thursday (11) the Covid Longa Center, in Manguinhos, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro. The action, which is part of the Unidos Contra a Covid-19 program, made it possible to equip INI/Fiocruz with the necessary infrastructure for the Centro de Covid Longa to be a multidisciplinary research space, as well as a center for the treatment and rehabilitation of people with sequelae. of covid-19, providing better quality of life for patients. At Centro de Covid Longa, the Recover Post-Covid project is developed: monitoring, multidisciplinary assessment and rehabilitation of individuals with post-covid-19 conditions in Rio. And also the Recover-Post-Covid Unified Health System (SUS) Brazil, a collaboration between researchers from the INI, the Oswaldo Cruz Institute and the Sérgio Arouca National School of Public Health (Ensp/Fiocruz). Virus still circulating “The virus continues to circulate and we have to not only strengthen the country’s response capacity to new threats from covid-19 in public health, whether in immunization, surveillance, research or assistance, but also deal with the enormous consequences left by disease in the population”, said, in a note, the president of Fiocruz, Mario Moreira. The project involves evaluations in the cardiovascular, respiratory, hematological, immunological, neurological/physiotherapy, metabolic-nutritional, otorhinolaryngological and mental health/quality of life axes, as well as will study the disease burden of the long covid.It also intends to generate scientific evidence to support the formulation of public policies to face the impact of the long covid on the Brazilian population and expand access to rehabilitation services in the Unified Health System (SUS).
