The Federal Police (PF) started, this Thursday (11), an operation to remove invaders from the Karipuna Indigenous Land (TI), in Rondônia. The operation has the participation of 80 federal police officers and employees of the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) and the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). The objective is to act in areas of deforestation in the TI, combating illegal logging and land grabbing. The agents involved in the operation will act in the 12 largest and main deforestation alert points existing inside the TI, as well as in 20 logging and sawmills that are located in its surroundings. These establishments sell illegal wood extracted from the Karipuna TI within a scheme that involves emission fraud and simulated transfers of virtual credits from the Forest Origin Document System. According to the PF, the machinery, tools and structures found will be destroyed and those responsible will be taken to the Federal Police headquarters for the adoption of the appropriate procedures. Preliminary data on arrests or arrests has not yet been released.
