The Federal Police and the Ministry of Labor and Employment rescued another worker in a condition analogous to slavery. The 74-year-old victim worked in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, at a construction site in the Três Lagoas neighborhood. The action took place this Wednesday (10). “The police officers and auditors found that the worker was subjected to degrading working conditions, exhausting hours and debt servitude. In about a year and a half of service, the employee had never taken time off, taken vacations or received wages. He said he worked to pay off debts contracted in his boss’s market. At the time of the rescue, his debt was almost R$7,000,” the PF said in a note. According to investigators, the employer was arrested red-handed “for the crime of reducing him to a condition analogous to that of a slave” and taken to the Federal Police Station in Foz do Iguaçu. If convicted, the penalty can reach eight years in prison.
