At HC de Marília the situation is emergency for O- blood types, with only 20.8% of stock supplied. Types B- and AB- are in zero stock. In Sorocaba Hemonucleus, stocks of types O+ and O- are low, as well as reserves of platelet concentrate. Stocks at the Hemocenter of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu (HCFMB) are also at critical levels and need donations of all blood types. “With the start of immunization campaigns and the holidays, there was a drop in blood donations. People who have been vaccinated against the flu and against the coronavirus with the Coronavac and Covaxin vaccines must wait 48 hours to donate blood, while the other vaccines against covid-19 require an interval of 7 days between immunization and donation”, explained the Pro-Sangue Foundation. According to the foundation, on holidays the challenge boils down to less donations because people are traveling and more accidents on the roads, increasing the demand for transfusions.
