The Federal Police launched Operation Lutcha today (16), which investigates fraud in social security benefits, in the capital of São Paulo and in the municipality of Itaquaquecetuba. According to the corporation, the crimes began to be committed last year and have already harmed around 22,000 policyholders across the country. In a note, the PF reported that, to apply the scams, the gang used electronic devices that allowed remote access to the systems of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) and obtaining data and passwords from servers. Such a strategy was made possible by the involvement of employees of an agency of the agency in the municipality of Tatuapé, who are now also under investigation. It is estimated that the drain on public coffers generated by the crimes reaches a total of R$ 1 billion. The suspects must answer for social security fraud, criminal association and passive corruption. The investigations had the cooperation of the Intelligence Center of the General Coordination of Social Security and Labor Intelligence (CGINT), linked to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, and the INSS.
