The first edition of the 2023 Paralympic Festival will be held this Saturday (20), from 9 am to 12:30 pm (time in each location), in 119 centers spread across the 26 states of the country and the Federal District. The event promotes the experimentation of Paralympic sports to children aged 8 to 17 years, through activities that simulate them in a playful way. Children with intellectual disabilities make up 38% of those registered for this Saturday’s Paralympic Festival. According to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), organizer of the event, 80% of the vacancies are for children and young people with some physical, visual or intellectual impairment. The rest are intended for the non-disabled public. The expectation is to receive about 16 thousand people. “Our objective is to show the modalities to the participants and awaken in them the will to practice sports daily. It is a way of positively impacting their lives”, highlighted the Director of Sports Development of the CPB, Ramon Pereira, to the entity’s website . The venues selected for the festival were announced in March. Thirty-four of the 119 venues are part of the Reference Centers project, prepared by the CPB in 2017, which offers Paralympic modalities, from initiation to high performance, in sports spaces located in different parts of the country. It is the first time that the action will take place twice in the same year. The next edition is scheduled for September 23, a Saturday, ending the week in which the National Day of Struggle for People with Disabilities (September 21) and the National Paralympic Athlete Day (September 22) are celebrated. The Paralympic Festival was held for the first time in 2018, bringing together more than seven thousand children and young people from 48 cities in the country. The edition with the most participants so far was last year, involving around 15,000 people in 98 municipalities.
