Researchers from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) are among the finalists for an international health innovation award. Vaccines were produced against covid-19 and for the treatment of addiction to cocaine and crack. One of the projects is the SpiN-Tec vaccine for covid-19. According to Professor Helton da Costa Santiago, from the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology, the immunizer, which is still under development, innovates by stimulating cellular immunity and guaranteeing longer-lasting protection against the coronavirus. Calixcoca is the second vaccine competing for the prize. Developed by Professor Frederico Duarte Garcia, the immunizer is in the pre-clinical testing phase and seeks to treat cocaine and crack addicts. The professors claim that, if they win the award, they will invest the amounts in new research. Voting To participate in the election, you must be a doctor and have a professional registration in the countries where the award sponsor does business. Voting runs until June 28. The total value of the prize is 1.05 million euros, equivalent to R$ 5.4 million. The value will be divided among 12 participating categories.
