In a state of public health emergency due to childhood flu syndrome, Amapá will receive more than 32,000 cubic meters of oxygen, in addition to hospital equipment and a medical air mixer. The transport is being carried out by ship by the Navy. There are two cryogenic tanks that began to be transported today (21). The cargo departed from Belém (PA), and should arrive in Santana (AP) on Tuesday (23). In the first five months of the year, the state faced an increase of more than 108% in the hospitalization of children with flu syndromes. Most internees have between seven months and four years. The overcrowding at the Children’s and Adolescents’ Hospital in Macapá meant that even administrative rooms were transformed into space for new beds. There was also an increase from 20 to 24 in the number of vacancies in the pediatric ICU. The situation was caused by the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which causes bronchitis, inflammation that makes it difficult for oxygen to reach the lungs. Cases of Influenza A and B and covid-19 were also detected. On the 13th, the state declared a public health emergency. Governor Clécio Luís even made an appeal for vaccination. Across the state, only 16% of the child population able to receive the vaccine was immunized. The Ministry of Health is monitoring the situation. Laboratory analysis kits for diagnosis, medication, and a field epidemiology team were sent to reinforce emergency actions and case investigation.
