Brasilia will host from Tuesday (23rd) to Thursday (25th) the II International Congress on School Feeding. Organized by the National Fund for the Development of Education of the Ministry of Education (FNDE/MEC), the event should bring together more than 350 participants from all over Brazil and 13 countries in Latin America, to discuss the importance of food and nutrition education in the execution of school feeding programs and in their school surroundings. Aimed at nutrition and education professionals, the event will take place in person, at the Serzedello Corrêa Institute Auditorium, with simultaneous transmission on the FNDE YouTube channel. During the event, the 20 best Brazilian food and nutrition education experiences identified during the fourth Food and Nutrition Education Day, promoted by the FNDE, in March 2022, will be presented. In addition, successful international initiatives will be displayed. Collegiate Parallel to the congress, whose first edition took place in 2017, there will be the reinstallation of the Management Committee. Composed of representatives of ministries and government agencies and civil society, the collegiate is responsible for developing actions to qualify and strengthen the direct purchase of products from family farming for school meals, “seeking to ensure healthier food for students in public schools , while seeking to establish a market for family farmers”. The ordinance that creates the new Management Committee also instituted the Consultative Group whose attribution will be to support the elaboration of actions to improve the partnership between school feeding and family agriculture. The collegiate includes representatives of associations of farmers, extractivists, quilombolas, indigenous peoples, cooperatives, school feeding advisers, representatives of the National Council for Food and Nutritional Security (Consea), the National Union of Municipal Education Directors (Undime) and the Council National Board of Education Secretaries (Consed), among other entities. Visits As of this Monday (22nd), international managers, program coordinators, executive secretaries and professionals from Latin American countries present at the congress will visit schools and properties of family farmers. The objective is to introduce visitors to the operationalization of the PNAE, which has been running for over six decades in Brazil and is a reference as a public policy for the region. Representatives from Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Panama will form part of the international delegation.
