The Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, said this Monday (22nd), in Brasília, that she will contact Spanish authorities to demand, from the government of Spain and the Spanish soccer league, effective actions against racism practiced against the Brazilian soccer player Vini Jr, who plays for Real Madrid. This Sunday (21), the athlete heard racist insults and shouts of “monkey” coming from the stands – in this case, the Valencia fans. Valencia beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Mestalla Stadium. Also during the game, the Brazilian – revealed by Flamengo – was the only one sent off by referee De Burgos Bengoetxea, after a mix-up with Valencia players. ‘I want to express my solidarity with Vini Jr and say that we are together”, said the minister, after participating, at the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger (MDS), in the launching ceremony of the Interministerial Working Group (GTI), which will prepare the proposal for the National Care Policy. Effective actions Anielle Franco informed that she will contact the Spanish authorities to find out what will be the next step in the investigations into the case, and that she will demand effective actions for similar cases that have been occurring for some time in the Spanish championship – known as La Liga. “We already released a note with several ministries of the federal government, but now we go to the authorities [espanholas], officially. History is not good. It’s pretty racist. They even wanted to put Vini at fault. We are here to face this together”, argued the minister. She recalled that La Liga’s history shows that cases like this had already occurred, and that the entity has not positioned itself. “It is unacceptable that they blame Vinícius. Therefore, we will, through the Spanish Public Ministry, notify the authorities to investigate La Liga and all other cases. It’s not possible for us to just focus on the ‘repudiate’ thing, in a note, without concrete action. So, we are now going to go up with the Public Ministry there, so that they are notified, investigated and so that they respond for their actions”, he added, informing that he is also waiting for a direct position from the government of that country.
