The city of Recife entered a high alert stage this Wednesday (24) due to the heavy rains recorded. According to the local operations center, flooding causes occurrences in several points, impacting the routine of the capital of Pernambuco. In the last few hours, the volume of rain recorded reached 75.85 millimeters (mm), equivalent to 23% of the historical average for the entire month of May, which is 328.90 mm. City Hall teams work to mitigate the impact of the rain – City Hall of Recife/Twitter “The weather forecast indicates the possibility of moderate rainfall in Recife in the next 24 hours. Municipal teams are mobilized and monitoring the situation. Classes were suspended in the municipal education network and the population should try to leave the house only if necessary”, highlighted the center, through a note. Shelters Recife City Hall has opened five shelters to accommodate people who need to temporarily leave their homes. The spaces receive spontaneous demands and referrals from the Executive Secretariat of Civil Defense and are located in the following areas: CSU Bidu Krause – Avenida 11 de Agosto SN; Paulo Sexto VI School – Rua Guaíra, 200, Linha do Tiro; Diná de Oliveira School – Rua São Mateus, s/n, Iputinga; Célia Arraes School – Rua José Noya, 117, Várzea; and Coqueiral Baptist Church – Rua Coripós, 91, Coqueiral. Services “Due to the heavy rains this Wednesday, some municipal services offered by the city of Recife had face-to-face attendance changed”, informed the city hall. At Procon Recife, located in the Boa Vista neighborhood, there will be no hours at the agency’s service posts located in the community centers of Paz, the so-called Compaz (Ariano Suassuna, in Cordeiro; Eduardo Campos, in Alto Santa Terezinha; Dom Helder, in Coque ). Employment agencies, vocational schools and Recife’s entrepreneur rooms will not work either. Museums and theaters will be closed on Wednesday, “to prevent displacement and ensure the safety of employees and the public”. Also cancelled, due to the rains, was the concert by the Recife Symphony Orchestra, which would be held tonight, starting at 8 pm, at the Teatro de Santa Isabel. Civil Defense Recife’s Civil Defense is permanently on duty and can be contacted by calling 0800 081 3400. The call is free and the service is available 24 hours a day. The guidance is that residents of risk areas stay alert and trigger the agency if necessary. “The population should pay attention to the digital channels of the Recife City Hall, which will always be updated on the situation”, highlighted the agency.
