The Federal Police (PF) launched this Thursday (25) the False Test operation to determine the diversion of about R$ 400,000 in federal funds destined for public health in the municipality of Curitibanos (SC). The corporation complies with seven search and seizure warrants issued by the Federal Court in search of evidence of possible fraud in the preparation of covid-19 exams in the city. The kidnapping and unavailability of assets of those involved were also decreed. “The investigations pointed to evidence that some laboratories based in the city of Santa Catarina would have applied rapid covid-19 tests on citizens as if they were of the RCT-PCR type, which is more complex and more expensive for public coffers.” Still according to the PF, the difference in the costs of these exams, paid by the municipality, may have generated a loss of more than R$ 400 thousand. “The police inquiry is still ongoing and those investigated may be indicted for the commission of crimes of embezzlement, fraud in bidding and criminal association, whose maximum combined penalties can reach 23 years in prison.”
