Turks go back to the polls next Sunday (28) for the second round of presidential elections, which may bring Recep Tayyip Erdogan back to the post of president. But the results obtained in the first round by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the main opponent of the current head of state, do not suggest a simple outcome. The Kurdish vote can play a relevant role, as the community represents 10% of the population. And this has been one of the foundations of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. In the second round, the opposition candidate adopted a speech against immigrants, which has led to discontent among Kurds. Despite this, the main Kurdish party continues to call for a vote for Kılıçdaroğlu, to prevent Erdogan from winning and turning the country into a full-fledged dictatorship, they claim. The Courses, an ethnic group from the Middle East, is made up of about 30 million people. The majority, around 14 million, live in eastern Turkey, in a region called Turkish Kurdistan. The rest, about 16 million, live in Iraq and parts of Syria and Iran. *Reproduction of this content is prohibited.
