The national flu vaccination campaign ends this Wednesday (31). The most recent balance sheet by the Ministry of Health, released last Monday (29), indicates that 34.7 million doses had been applied amid a total of almost 80 million doses distributed across the country. “For the effective protection of the population, however, especially the most vulnerable, it is necessary that more people receive the immunization”, highlighted the folder. On the last 12th, the folder expanded vaccination against the flu to all people over 6 months of age. The goal is to vaccinate 90% of the population. With the end of the campaign, the ministry’s orientation is that states and municipalities expand the calendar of local actions while vaccine stocks last. The vaccine The flu vaccine is available every year before winter, when respiratory illnesses are most common. According to the folder, immunizers have an “excellent” safety profile and are well tolerated. Manifestations such as pain at the injection site are common, occurring in 15% to 20% of patients and usually resolve within 48 hours. “The vaccine is manufactured with inactivated, fragmented and purified viruses, that is, it is not capable of inducing the development of the disease”, reinforced the ministry. The composition and concentration of antigens are updated each year following guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO). “The Ministry of Health reinforces that the immunizer can be administered simultaneously with other vaccines on the national calendar”.
