The Federal Supreme Court (STF) defined today (31) a triple list that will be sent to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for a vacancy as substitute minister of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the Judiciary body responsible for organizing the elections. The list consists of three women. Lawyers Daniela Borges, president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in Bahia, Edilene Lobo, linked to the PT in Minas Gerais, and Marilda Silveira, who works in the electoral area in Brasília, were nominated. With the definition of the names, the list will be formally sent to the Presidency of the Republic, and it will be up to President Lula to choose one of the three suggested names. There is no legal deadline for the choice. The vacancy of deputy minister was opened after Lula nominated Minister André Ramos Tavares to be an effective member of the Court. Lawyers Daniela Borges and Edilene Lobo were on the list drawn up last week by the Supreme Court for an effective vacancy, but were passed over. According to the Constitution, it is up to the President of the Republic to appoint the lawyers who compose the court. The TSE is composed of seven ministers, three from the Federal Supreme Court (STF), two from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and two lawyers with notorious legal knowledge, in addition to their respective substitutes.
