The CBF sent a representation requesting measures to FIFA, football’s highest body, and filed a complaint with the Justice of Argentina requesting punishment for those involved in the racist acts directed at defender Robert Renan, of the Brazilian Under-20 team, during the defeat of Tunisia, for the round of 16 of the World Cup, in Argentina. The insults hurled by fans at the Ciudad La Plata stadium began when the 19-year-old player left the pitch after being sent off late in the first half. Then the attacks would continue on social media. “The CBF vehemently condemns any type of discriminatory action in football and will no longer tolerate these cases in the sport,” the CBF said in a statement. “The profiles [dos autores dos ataques nas redes sociais] are already filed by the CBF and will be sent to the local court and FIFA”. Born in Ceilândia (DF), 19-year-old Robert Renan was the target of racist attacks when he left the pitch in the final minutes of the first half, after being sent off for committing a foul as the last man in the Brazilian defense. The player responded to the insults by showing the team’s shield and the five hand sign, in reference to the fifth world championship. Then the racist offenses continued on social media. Messages were shared with insults to the player along with images (emojis) of monkeys. The Brazilian reposted the offenses and replied with the message: “Fight always fight, never run away, retreat only if it is to gain momentum, this is Brazil !!”. The racist acts against Robert Renan occurred ten days after attacker Vinícius Júnior being the target of racial slurs in the defeat of Real Madrid to Valencia in the Spanish Championship, organized by LaLiga. The case generated worldwide repercussions. In protest of racist acts against Vini Jr, the CBF promoted the campaign “With racism there is no game” in the week past, in all games of the eighth round of the Brasileirão.
