The Civil Police and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro will investigate a complaint of racism that is drawing attention on social networks. Two influencers published videos in which they appear playing a kind of racist game with black children. They approached children on the street and offered them gift packages containing a banana and a stuffed monkey. The content was denounced by the lawyer Fayda Belo, specialist in gender crimes, anti-discrimination law and femicide. In a video published on two social networks, Fayda argues that the act constitutes a crime of recreational racism. “But it’s not a joke. The name of this is recreational racism. Using discrimination against black people for the purpose of fun, relaxation, recreation, is now a crime. You can receive a sentence of up to almost 8 years in jail.” In the post, Fayda Belo called on people to report the crime to the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro. According to the MP, until this Wednesday afternoon, around 700 communications related to the case had been received. The case was distributed to the 2nd Public Prosecutor’s Office for Specialized Criminal Investigation of the Capital, for analysis of the fact and adoption of the appropriate measures. The Police Station for Racial Crimes and Intolerance Crimes has also instituted an investigation procedure and will analyze the videos. In addition, the Civil Police said, in a note, that steps are underway to identify all those involved and determine the facts. After the repercussion, the videos were deleted. In a note, the influencers’ defense claimed that they had no intention of making any reference to racial issues or discrimination against minorities. The text also asks that justice be done and that all parties have the opportunity to present their arguments. Furthermore, it says that they will cooperate fully with any investigation conducted by the authorities. Listen on the National Radio Agency:
