The President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber, inspected, this Friday (2), two prisons in the city of Aparecida de Goiânia, in Goiás, to verify the conditions of the detainees. The minister was at the Consuelo Nasser Women’s Penitentiary and at the Provisional Prison House (CPP) and heard complaints about the overcrowding of the cells, processing of cases and delay in the judgment of requests filed by the lawyers of the prisoners in the local Judiciary. This week, 58 technicians from the National Council of Justice (CNJ), a body that is also chaired by Rosa Weber, were in 19 of the 94 prisons in the state to supervise the dependencies of the prison units. Based on the information collected, a report on the status of prisoners will be prepared and disseminated later. According to the council, since 2021, 42 complaints of human rights violations have been received in state prisons. In addition to Goiás, the CNJ carried out inspections this year in the penitentiary system of three states: Ceará, Amazonas and Pernambuco. In April, Rosa Weber and Minister Alexandre de Moraes visited the Papuda prison, in the Federal District, where the prisoners denounced for their involvement in the January 8 coup acts are kept. The ministers inspected the cells and the food served to the detainees. Moraes even tasted the prisoners’ food.
