The United States Space Agency (NASA) wants to better understand the so-called “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (Uaps, acronym in English; or Fanis, in Portuguese). The term refers to what, in many cases, is associated with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and unidentified underwater objects (Osnis). NASA seeks to create conditions to, in the light of science, try to explain such events. Most, in fact, end up having some explanation. However, according to the agency itself, between 2% and 5% remain in the field of “unidentified anomalous phenomena”. With the objective of establishing more adequate methodologies for carrying out surveys and obtaining more accurate data on these phenomena, NASA gathered, this week, an independent study team that explained, by teleconference, how it intends to categorize and evaluate such events. Report “The focus of this public meeting is to make final deliberations before the agency’s independent study team publishes a report,” NASA said. According to the agency, the report will be published soon. The paper will describe how to evaluate and study Uaps using data, technology and science tools. “It is not a review, or assessment of previously unidentified observations. The report will inform NASA about what possible data can be collected in the future to clarify the nature and origin of the UAP,” he added. The Uaps independent study team is a board composed of 16 scientists from diverse fields, experts in subjects relevant to potential methods of studying unidentified anomalous phenomena. Afterwards, a roadmap will be created on how to use the data and tools of science to advance our understanding. “At present, Uap’s limited high-quality observations make it impossible to draw scientific conclusions from the data about the nature of such events,” the agency said. Uap is reality The teleconference was accompanied by the astronomer and coordinator of the Exoss meteor research project, linked to the National Observatory, Marcelo De Cicco. According to De Cicco, the meeting makes it clear that NASA admits that the Uap phenomenon is a reality. “The agency also showed what the strengths and weaknesses of this type of study are, as well as the difficulties in obtaining good quality data, with adequate sensors. Another interesting point is the initiative of not admitting any form of moral harassment against those who study this type of phenomenon”, he told Agência Brasil De Cicco. Another issue that caught the attention of the Brazilian astronomer was the fact that NASA representatives have stated, even emphatically, that the agency does not have any privileged information, nor does it hide any evidence of the existence of flying saucers. With that, “the hundreds of conspiracy theories involving NASA and extraterrestrials fall to the ground”, as the committee also went public to make it clear that “it would be difficult to contain scientists about the secrecy of this type of information, since the man of science, fundamentally , has independence of thought and does not usually passively accept hierarchical opinions that are not in the search for truth,” he said.
