LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Month will open this weekend in Rio de Janeiro with the event Presença Festival, which is in its second edition. The acronym LGBTQIAPN+. The acronym encompasses lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer (questioning), intersex, asexual/aromantic/agender, pan/poly, non-binary, and more. The first edition of the festival was in April last year. The creator of the event is publicist José Menna Barreto (photo), who is also a curator and artistic director. Menna Barreto told Agência Brasil that the festival was born out of personal concern and her desire to contribute to changes in society in terms of diversity, equity and inclusion in culture and art. “With the festival, I found myself in a place of activism, to contribute to the causes that the event addresses.” According to the publicist, the event gives visibility, protagonism and prominence to black people, women and LGBTQIAPN+ people, as well as people from native peoples and people with disabilities. “The festival addresses various artistic and cultural segments, such as sung and instrumental music, visual arts, dance and theater, with the mission of strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion in culture and art.” Menna Barreto said that the objective is to demonstrate to society that diversity is present in the most varied cultural segments and in the creative economy. This Saturday’s (3rd) attractions at Circo Voador include singer and transvestite activist Linn da Quebrada, singer Johnny Hooker and drag queen Grag Queen, in presentations that mix entertainment and awareness. The special night will open at 7 pm, extending until 4 am on Sunday (4). The singer and activist Linn da Quebrada is one of the attractions at the Presença Festival – Wallace Domingues/Disclosure Tickets are on sale on this website. “Presença is very fond of bringing artists who are really involved and who fight for these causes to the population. The project has this affection, this care”, said the advertiser. Aiming to democratize access, Menna Barreto informed that transgender people do not pay admission to participate in the festival. Also this Saturday night, there will be the LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Ball, which brings to light the ballroom culture (culture of inclusion, identification and expression), with a special guest: French transgender dancer Lasseindra Ninja. Pioneer in the European ballroom scene and protagonist of the 2019 film Fabulous, Lasseindra comes to Brazil for the first time. In addition to participating as a judge at the ball, Lasseindra will give a free vogue workshop, a dance style that was propagated worldwide by the singer Madonna. The value of the prizes for each category of the ball, called grand prizes, is R$ 800. Mundo Presença On Sunday (4), the public will have free access to Mundo Presença, at the Centro de Movimento Deborah Colker, in Gávea, where, from From 10:00 to 20:00, visitors can enjoy various attractions, including art exhibitions, dance workshops; literature, dramaturgy and instrumental music activities; film screenings and chats with film directors and screenwriters. Joelington’s research aims to reveal other corporalities, create meaning, reframe memories and rare forms of existence. The public will also be able to visit the exhibition The Abecedário da Diversidade, by Diego Moura. The artist seeks inspiration in figures from the pop universe, which make up the art series Perfil to invite visitors to learn about the meaning of the acronym LGBTQIAPN+, which summarizes the sexual and gender diversity that makes up society. Without intending to link the characters to the definitions of each genre, Diego Moura says that one of the ways to combat prejudice is through education and expanding access to knowledge. There will also be dance workshops; audiovisual activities, with exhibition of short films; instrumental music activities; chats; literature and dramaturgy activities; a multiple art, design, fashion and gastronomy fair, in addition to children’s activities in the Sementes do Futuro panel.
