41 days before the opening of the Women’s Football Cup, FIFA released this Friday (9) the updated world ranking, in which the Brazilian team rose one position: it took 8th place, pushing the Netherlands to ninth place. In the top 5 there were no changes: the United States, current world champions, maintain the leadership, followed by Germany, Sweden, England and France. The final #FIFARanking ahead of the #FIFAWWC! 📈 🇪🇸 and 🇧🇷 both climb the table! 💪 — FIFA Women’s World Cup (@FIFAWWC) June 9, 2023 According to FIFA, the exchange of positions such as Brazil and Spain – which rose to an unprecedented 6th place – was due to the victories of both teams in the last friendlies of Data Fifa. The national team beat Germany, European runner-up, 2-1, in Nuremberg. La Roja – as the Spanish team is also called – beat Norway (4-2) and China (3-0) at home. On the other hand, defeats in friendlies pushed Canada to 7th and the Netherlands to 9th. Hosts of the World Cup, Australia occupies the 10th position in the ranking, and New Zealand the 25th place. The Women’s World Cup starts on July 20, with 32 teams. Brazil is in Group F and will debut two days later against Panama (52nd). In the second round, the team faces France (5th) on July 29th and closes the group stage playing against Jamaica (43rd), on August 2nd. The next FIFA ranking update will take place shortly after the end of the Women’s Cup, on August 25.
