The names were announced on Tuesday (13). Fernanda and Milena debuted as curators at Flip 2022, when they formed a collective with Pedro Meira Monteiro. Flip’s artistic director, Mauro Munhoz, highlighted that the fundamental point that characterizes the work of the pair of curators is that “both Fernanda and Milena are readers of several sets, from several Brazils. They are lighthouses that illuminate paths that are still little traveled in our cultural and literary landscape”. curious as Brazilian literature is, without losing sight of the fact that literature does not need to be distant and dissociated from the desire for life “of each and every one of us.” Milena Britto says that Flip 2023 will be as exciting, singular and unusual as the She highlights that Brazil has a potent artistic expression, complex and in no way stagnant. “Even with so many efforts made in recent years to understand and disseminate the various pages that make up this literary Brazil, our production has still been poorly read or misused in some areas, most of the time due to remnants of a reading practice still attached to hegemonic models. thus, this character of illuminating differences, dialogues, encounters and even disagreements, is still present and pulsating, but it can be pulsating at another pace.” Last year, the honoree was Maria Firmina dos Reis. The name of the author or honored author of this edition is being defined and will be announced soon. About the choice, Fernanda Bastos said that the idea is to look at restless and disruptive minds that were not always seen as brilliant in their time, “but who, due to their courage to produce even without legitimacy, left us a powerful and inspiring work”. Milena Britto added that there will be a tribute with the face of a Brazil of today, of yesterday and of the future. “It is not easy to choose a single name; our Brazil is a garden of flowers-names inviting us to pick them”. Bastos clarified that diversity and a curious look at literature and the arts are hallmarks of the curators’ work and will be highlighted in this edition. “And this needs to happen naturally, without any surprises or snags, because we live in a diverse world in which the complexities and challenges of communication must be faced with lucidity and generosity,” she told Agência Brasil.
