Brazilian athletics continues to collect good results in Europe, in search of points to qualify for the World Cup in Budapest (Hungary), which distributes places for the 2024 Paris Olympics. On Tuesday (13), Rafael Pereira won silver in the 100 meters hurdles event at the Paavo Nurmi Games, in Turku (Finland). In the Czech Republic, at the Kladno Kladenske Memorial Meeting, two bronze medals were won: Eric Felipe in the 200m and Pedro Henrique in the javelin throw. Current South American record holder, Rafael Pereira completed the 110m hurdles in 13s41, nine hundredths behind the winner, the North American Jamal Britt (13.32), who took the gold. In third place was the Italian Hassane Fofana (13.43). The competition in Finland is part of the other series of the International Athletics Federation (World Athetics), just below the Diamond series, the one with the highest score. The champion was the Slovakian Ján Volko (20.60) and the silver went to the Polish Przemyslaw Slowikowski (20.69). Eric also competed in the 100m event, coming in fifth place (10.31) – the winner was the South African South Akani Simbine (10.07). Also shining at the Meeting Kladno Kladenske Memorial – World Athletic’s bronze series – was Pedro Henrique Nunes Rodrigues, 22, from Amazonas, champion of the Grande Prêmio Brasil Loterias Caixa in May, breaking the Brazilian record in the javelin throw after eight years. Born in Parintins (AM), Pedro won bronze with a mark of 76.76m. The winner of the race was the South African Down Smit (78.79m) and the silver went to the Hungarian Norbert Rivasz-Tóth (76.83m). In individual events, up to three athletes per country will be allowed. The World Cup in Budapest (Hungary), in August, and the national tournaments (Troféu Brasil) are the main competitions in the search for the Olympic index for individual competitions.
