The Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger published, this Friday (16), an ordinance that releases R$ 8,971,200 for social assistance actions for immigrants and refugees. In all, 15 municipalities in ten states will receive an emergency transfer of federal resources to care for 3,738 people internalized by shelter programs or by spontaneous demand. According to the Interactive Panel on Refuge in Brazil, maintained by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Brazil currently has 65,811 people recognized in that condition and just over 155,000 requests are under analysis. Resources from the National Social Assistance Fund will serve for six months of assistance, throughout this year, and were distributed according to the volume of people that each municipality received, or will receive. The objective is to fund the work program and meet the needs of immigrants and refugees and their families in situations of vulnerability and risk. According to the ordinance, each municipality must present an action plan within 30 days, otherwise, the resource will be collected by the Union.
