Property rentals became more important in Brazilian housing from 2016 to 2022. The Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD), released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Friday (16), estimated that in 2022 there were 74.1 million households in the country, of which 85% were houses and 14.9% apartments. Of this total, 21.1% were rented in 2022, a percentage higher than those observed in 2016 (18.5%) and 2019 (19.3%). “In relation to 2019, all major regions showed an increase in the percentage of rented homes, with emphasis on the Midwest Region, which had an increase of 3.3 percentage points and the South Region, of 2.3 percentage points”, he said. IBGE researcher Gustavo Fontes. According to him, the states that concentrated the highest percentages of rented homes were the Federal District, Goiás, Mato Grosso and São Paulo. At the same time, in the country, properties owned by the resident and already paid off increased from 66.7% in 2016 to 64.8% in 2019 and 63.8% in 2022. Other conditions of occupation of properties observed in the survey in 2022 are owned homes that were still being paid for (6%), assigned (8.8%) and other occupation conditions (0.2%). Pnad Contínua also analyzed the material used in finishing the houses. The majority material of Brazilian residential properties was masonry/rammed earth with coating (88.6%). Uncoated masonry represented 6.9% of residences and wood suitable for construction, 3.9%. On the floor, Brazilian homes were covered mainly with ceramics, tiles or stone (80.7%), but there were also uses of wood (6.4%), cement (12.2%) and other materials (0.6% ). On the roof, tiles without concrete slabs were the most used (49.8%), followed by roofs with concrete slabs (32.1%), concrete slabs only (15.2%) and other materials (2. 9%). Only in the Southeast, tile with slabs was preferred (49.7%). Regarding ownership of goods in households, the survey found that 98.4% of them owned a refrigerator, up from 98.1% in 2016. There was also an increase in the share of households with a washing machine, from 62.9% in 2016 to 70.2% in 2022; cars, from 47.6% to 49.8%, and motorcycles, from 22.6% to 25%.
