The history of the debate table , considered the most traditional of Brazilian television, however, started long before the name change. First edition The first edition aired on June 27, 1976 on the former TV Educativa in Rio de Janeiro, which is currently called TV Brasil. Over time there have been many changes. At the premiere, the presentation was made by the late journalist Luiz Mendes, known as “the commentator of the easy word”, and the program was called Terceira Tempo. After Mendes, the presentation was on account of Luiz Orlando and the production was called Esporte Total. Then came the narrator Januário de Oliveira and the sports attraction was renamed Esporte Visão. Presenter Sérgio du Bocage and journalist Márcio Guedes – Fernando Frazão/Agência Brasil With a heart attack that temporarily removed Januário, the current presenter Sérgio Du Bocage was in charge of the program for about two years, until the return of the titular. “I was called rather hastily, the day before, to present the program for the first time. It was the day after Januário’s birthday, which was September 19th. and I was presenting the table.” At the time, there was no PT [teleprompter, equipamento onde é possível ler o texto da apresentação sem aparecer na imagem]. To this day I don’t use it. I think I learned because of that and I took a liking to the new role, which I had never considered”, said Bocage, who was a reporter at the time. Round Table In 1990, it was Raul Quadros’ turn to lead the debate table. The journalist was succeeded by veteran sports narrator José Carlos Araújo, known as Garotinho, who transferred to TVE/RJ to present the program that changed its name and became Mesa Redonda. When Garotinho left, journalist Maurício Menezes was in charge and it was then called Debate Esportivo. From 1996, the Sunday program was under the command of narrator Ricardo Mazella, who shared the presentation with Bocage. Already in 2001, with the partnership of TVE/RJ and the newspaper O Dia, highlights of the sports press of the time, such as Márcio Guedes, Paulo Stein and Alberto Léo went to the station and integrated the sports section of the newspaper, the Attack. The presentation was given in the O Dia office, on Rua do Riachuelo, in the center of the city. In addition to these stars, the bench had fixed participations from Renato Gaúcho, Francisco Horta and Isabel, from volleyball, in addition to Bocage. The following year, the broadcasts returned to TVE’s headquarters, on Rua Gomes Freire, in Lapa, downtown Rio, led by Márcio Guedes, under the name of EsporTVisão. From that moment on, the program also featured Paulo Stein, Sérgio Maurício and Henrique Marques, in addition to Ricardo Mazella and Bocage himself again. Sports commentator Waldir Luiz – Photo: Fernando Frazão/Agência Brasil In 2011, the head of the round table was journalist Flávio Winicki. He shared the bench with Sergio du Bocage, who took over the presentation the following year. In 2013, the attraction was renewed in the scenario and gained the current name of No Mundo da Bola, which remains until today in the programming schedule of TV Brasil. When he had this last change to No Mundo da Bola, the also journalist Alberto Léo was part of the group of fixed commentators of the program that succeeded EsporTVisão. Stars A team of commentators passed by the bench of the Sunday debate table. During this period, the bench had prominent professionals from the sports press such as Achilles Chirol, Oldemário Touguinhó Sérgio Noronha, Ruy Porto, Roberto Porto, Washington Rodrigues, journalist Sérgio Cabral, and also personalities such as former player and commentator Gérson, Canhotinha of gold. Since its creation, the program has conquered the public. For TV Brasil’s Sports manager, Paulo Garritano, the program awakens the affective memory of viewers, who have mostly watched the program since childhood. “It creates this affective memory and a kind of tradition. I remember like it was today. I, as a fan, would leave Maracanã and run home to watch the debate on TV Brasil and the compact of the game. This continues with people who go to Maracanã. I am sure that these people, when watching the program, remember a little of the past, ”he reported. “Today, with the ease of the internet, it’s easy to see how the game was, but not at that time, few broadcasters broadcast the compact of the game. So, this affective memory story is not only with the viewer, but with the athletes who played and ran to watch the game and see themselves on television”, he concluded. “We have to attribute the program’s large audience today to the strength of its format in the past.” Garritano said that the format of the program, which had the debate table and, in the sequence, presented the compact of a match of the round, was fundamental for him to decide what he would do professionally. “Watching these programs that my father watched played an extremely important role in doing journalism and sports journalism. After some time, to be working on a program in the same format, with the people I knew from television, and to be able to take part and debate, for me personally, it is a prize ”, he revealed. Both Garritano and Bocage believe that the success and interest of the public, despite being so long-lasting, is also due to the renewal the program is undergoing. “Try to bring different things like we are doing now, with a thematic program. This is renewal, a program with themes that are now factual such as racism and homophobia and bringing this to the table”, highlighted Garritano. Garritano added that this format also attracts an audience, which is not only interested in commentary on the games in the round. “I think this Sunday program, for those who don’t watch football, is interesting, because it will form an opinion and make people reflect a little. We maintain the traditional program, but today we are able to innovate and take a different look at the program”, he added. For Bocage, another factor that keeps the public’s interest is that the program, even though it is about debates, does not reproduce heated discussions to be discussed on social networks. “You don’t see it on our show, I don’t want to use the term low, but you don’t see shouting, discussion, there are polemics, but cordial. I think that as we have been an educational TV since our creation, we have to have an attitude towards that too. Public communication, let’s be polite in the air, without running over each other, without bickering. That doesn’t make the show not fun and engaging,” he defended. Participation The public can participate by sending text messages via WhatsApp with the number (21) 97148-9270. Throughout the program, responses are read live. Viewers can also voice their opinions on social media. In addition to TV Brasil, through the open channel, programming can be watched on cable and satellite TV.
