After six consecutive victories, the Brazilian women’s volleyball team succumbed to the United States, with a defeat by 3 sets to 0 (22/25, 19/25 and 22/25), at the end of the second qualifying round, at the Nilson Nelson Stadium, in Brasilia (DF). The setback, Brazil’s second in the competition, re-edited the Olympic final at the Tokyo Games, when the team let the gold slip by losing 3 sets to 0 to the North Americans. 🇺🇷 0 x 3 🇺🇸The @volei women’s team is surpassed by the United StatesLast game of the 2nd round of the League of Nations22/25, 19/25 and 22/25 pic.twitter.com/C4zObZ74dK — Time Brasil (@timebrasil) June 18, 2023 “Their serve made it difficult for us to receive and we struggled with our counterattacks. That’s what we need to improve on. These games serve as a parameter. Priscila Daroit felt her left adductor and we chose to keep her in the match because we have a lot of competition ahead of us. We are left with one less option for the game. The United States played more naturally and were more efficient. We need to improve our relationship between blocking and defense for games like this against the United States”, analyzed José Roberto Guimarães, coach of the national team, in a statement to the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV). With the stumble this Sunday (18), Brazil fell to fifth position (18 points) in the leaderboard, led by Poland (20). The United States occupies the second position (19), followed by Turkey (19) in third and China (18) in fourth place. The highlight of the match was the North American opposite Thompson, the highest scorer on the court, with 15 points. On the Brazilian side, who stood out was center Thaisa, with 12 points, 10 of them in the attack. “We have to learn from a match like this. The United States played very well and deserved to win, but we can play better than we are today. We managed to get the game in a few moments, but it wasn’t enough. The word for our group is evolution. That’s what we’re going to focus on in the next games”, projected the center.
