Deputies who are part of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) that investigates actions by the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) approved this Tuesday (20) a request to summon João Pedro Stédile, historical leader of the movement, to give testimony. The date of the deposition has not yet been set. Also approved was the appointment of José Rainha Júnior, who is leader of the National Fight Front in Campo e Cidade (FNL), another organization that has no relationship with the MST. Instituted almost two months ago, the MST’s CPI is seen by the movement as an attempt to criminalize the social struggle and agrarian reform, as well as a way of attacking the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Since 2003, the MST has already been investigated by four commissions of inquiry in the National Congress, the first being the Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on Land, which operated between 2003 and 2005. head of the Civil House, Rui Costa, was removed from the agenda, at the request of the author, deputy Evair de Melo (PP-ES), after an agreement in the collegiate. Despite this, in the session this Wednesday (21) or next week, the request may be analyzed again by the commission, which has a majority of opposition members. Costa was governor of Bahia between 2014 and 2022.
