This Tuesday (20) the Federal Police launched the second phase of the operation that seeks to dismantle a gang specialized in falsifying diplomas and transcripts of medical courses, in order to enroll false doctors in regional councils of the category. About 30 federal police officers serve four preventive arrest warrants and seven search and seizure warrants in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Silva Jardim (RJ), Saquarema (RJ) and Montes Claros (MG). The warrants were issued by the 4th Federal Criminal Court of Rio de Janeiro. The scheme was discovered when two people were arrested red-handed, in April 2022, when trying to obtain professional registrations at the Regional Council of Medicine in Rio de Janeiro, with forged diplomas and school transcripts. Based on the investigations initiated with this act, the first phase of the operation was carried out in February 2023, which carried out 11 search and seizure warrants against individuals and legal entities involved in the criminal scheme, which included two medical clinics. Continuing this action, the PF is now looking for the leaders of the criminal organization, to dismantle its activities in several states of the country, in addition to identifying more false doctors and also professionals from other areas who are acting based on the frauds carried out by the gang. The crimes investigated by the police are those of falsifying a public document (Art. 297 of the Penal Code), with a penalty of two to six years imprisonment and a fine, and use of a false document (Art. 304 of the Penal Code), for which the same sanctions are foreseen. Today’s operation was named Catharsis II, as it follows on from Catharsis I. The term was chosen for its philosophical origin, with the meaning of cleaning or personal purification.
