The federal government launched this Wednesday (21) a program to increase the security of passengers and luggage at airports in Brazil. The program, named Aeroportos+Seguros, includes, among other measures, the installation of new x-ray equipment and body scanners, inspection of luggage, the installation of more cameras in the check-in area and the use of liquid and explosive detectors. . According to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França (on the left), Guarulhos Airport, in São Paulo, should be the first to have the changes implemented. The measures should be adopted within 18 months, and around R$ 40 million will be invested in the terminal. In Guarulhos, new monitoring cameras will be installed; there will be identification with an individual access key to the baggage system at the airport’s international terminal; biometric access of employees in restricted areas; eight explosive detection devices; three new body scanners and six new x-ray machines. These changes will be implemented gradually at the other airports. França stressed that, in addition to curbing the practice of crimes, such as drug trafficking, the initiative will provide a greater sense of security for passengers and employees who work. “If it is true that we have one of the safest airlines in the world, it is also true that the policy must always be updated. This improvement is our duty”, said the minister. The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino (right), said that the Federal Police will contribute to the initiative with more police at the terminals, which should boost tourism in the country. “In addition to security, more tourism means development opportunities throughout the national territory,” he said.
