The fall of balloons in the electricity grid of the Light concessionaire, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, surpassed all occurrences of the type recorded between January and December 2022. the concern with the practice, typified as a crime, increases during the June festivities. From January until now, the fall of just seven balloons left 5,466 customers of the concessionaire without electricity for a period of 3,928,693 hours, according to Light. The municipality of Rio de Janeiro had four occurrences and the others were registered in Queimados and São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense. Airport on alert Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, known as Galeão, is on alert for incidents caused by balloons. The concessionaire that operates at the site launched the awareness campaign #NãoCaiBalão to point out the dangers and illegality of the practice. According to the numbers updated until May 2023 by the concessionaire, there were 23 occurrences of balloons in the airport area. In the year 2022, 68 occurrences were recorded, almost half of them, 32, during the June festivities, between June and August.
