The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change launched this Thursday (22) the first concession notice for forest recovery and planting of native species of the Atlantic Forest. The folder also announced the resumption of the conversion of environmental fines in the country. In a note, the ministry informed that the national forests of Irati (featured image), in Paraná, and Chapecó and Três Barras, in Santa Catarina, will be auctioned, with the objective of recovering the biome in the region. The project foresees investments of BRL 430 million in the forest operation and in the restoration chain over the 35 years of the contract. “Until then, the SFB [Serviço Florestal Brasileiro] it had only granted concessions for sustainable management in native forests in the Amazon”, highlighted the folder. Part of the resources obtained from the concession will be passed on to states and municipalities to invest in projects that stimulate the local economy, while the resources collected from forestry production will be destined to SFB, to the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), to the governments of Paraná and Santa Catarina and the municipalities of Chapecó, Três Barras, Fernandes Pinheiro and Teixeira Soares. Understand The project covers the forest restoration of more than 6,000 hectares, with the planting of native species. Of the three national forests, the one with the largest area is Três Barras, with 4,300 hectares, of which 2,686 are subject to forest concession. The one in Irati has an area of 3,800 hectares, of which 3,018 will be under concession. Chapecó will have 1,041 of its 1,660 hectares under concession. “Approved by the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), the notice is the result of structured modeling in partnership between the SFB and the BNDES [Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social]. The text was submitted to a public consultation process and the bidding process is scheduled for the second half of the year. The concessions are part of the Civil House’s Investment Partnerships Program (PPI), “concluded the ministry.
