The Ministry of Justice and Public Security authorized the stay – for another 90 days – of the National Public Security Force (FNSP), in the Nonoai Indigenous Land, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The agents will act in support of the Federal Police for the preservation of public order and the safety of people and property. The decision is published in the Official Gazette this Friday (23). Located in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, close to the border with Santa Cataria, the region has been the target of land conflicts, caused by invaders who promote the leasing of land for planting grain. There are around 20,000 hectares of territory in the municipalities of Alpestre, Nonoai, Gramado dos Loureiros, Planalto and Rio dos Índios, where Kaingang and Guarani indigenous people live. History In 2022, a military detachment was sent to the region and the presence of the military continued to be requested by the Federal Police, in compliance with a determination of the Federal Justice, provoked by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF). The military are working to comply with the Term of Adjustment of Conduct (TAC), signed between the Federal Public Ministry, the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) and the Cooperative of Indigenous Rural Workers of Nonoai (Copinai), which seeks to comply with ownership and usufruct of the utilities and natural riches, only by indigenous people.
