The deputies and senators of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) that investigates the coup acts of January 8 discussed this Tuesday (27) the possible relationship of former president Jair Bolsonaro with the messages exchanged between the then aide of orders of the President of the Republic, Lieutenant-Colonel Mauro Cid, and Colonel of the Active Army Jean Lawand Júnior, heard today by the commission. For the parliamentarians who formed the base of the Bolsonaro government, the messages exchanged between the military exempt the former president from responsibility. Deputy Aluísio Mendes (Republicanos-MA) opined that Colonel Lawand’s attempt to inflate a portion of Armed Forces officers for a coup was not accepted by the former president. “At no time is any message identified from him [Bolsonaro] or any sign of it that would agree with the Lord’s desire [Lawand], in the sense that the Armed Forces acted against the result of the election, nor on the part of the High Command of the Brazilian Army. So, that is clear”, argued the congressman from Maranhão. This version was refuted by federal deputy Pastor Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ). The congressman from Rio de Janeiro argued that, if the former president was against Colonel Lawand’s attempt, Mauro Cid would have rejected the military’s advances and repudiated the requests to give the order for a possible coup. “Guys, a person close to the President [Mauro Cid] did not reject this hypothesis. In fact, afterwards he will say: ‘Step by step, something is happening’, ‘We are in the fight’, ‘General Heleno was here’. At no time did Mauro Cid reject the thesis saying: ‘Look how absurd! Bolsonaro would never consider disrespecting the election result!’. I am seeing here evident signs of Bolsonaro’s awareness, science, participation and responsibility”, opined the Rio de Janeiro congressman. It is too early to say CPMI rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), opined that the evidence found on Mauro Cid’s cell phone proves the participation of part of the military in a coup conspiracy, but that it is still too early to know the extent of this articulation against the outcome of the elections. “As the evidence is very robust, it is clear that those people who are connected to the former president are already anticipating to exempt him from any responsibility. Now, the CPI has a large liability criterion. At this moment, we cannot exempt him or start from the premise of indictment. That’s what you’re going to say is the next information that will actually reach the commission”, opined the senator. In order to advance the investigation, Eliziane defended that the CPMI should approve, next week, the breach of telephone and telematic secrecy of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Colonel Jean Lawand Júnior, in addition to the Colonel of the Military Police of the Federal District, Jorge Eduardo Naime and by Anderson Torres, former secretary of security for the Federal District and former Minister of Justice in the Bolsonaro government.
