Black artists from all over the country can enroll – starting on the 30th – in the 3rd Public Notice of Culture of Sesc RJ Pulsar – O Corpo Negro, which will distribute R$ 850 thousand for selected projects in the area of dance. Applications can be made until the 31st of July at this address. The classifieds will be known on the 26th of October. In addition to selecting artistic attractions for the program, the public notice includes the strategic projects O Corpo Negro, Baixada em Foco, Nova Música Convida and Palavra Líquida, as happened in the 2022 edition, whose presentations were held in early 2023. The dance project Corpo Negro is held annually in the state of Rio de Janeiro, being considered one of the largest of its kind in the country, encompassing artists, collectives, artistic groups, students, teachers and black cultural producers. The selected programs will be presented from April 27 to June 2, 2024, totaling 14 poles with expanded access for different audiences. In Rio, the agenda includes the Espaço Cultural Arte Sesc (Flamengo) and the Sesc units in Tijuca, Copacabana and Ramos. In the metropolitan region of Rio and inland, the project will travel through Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Niterói, São Gonçalo, Petrópolis (Sesc Nogueira and Centro Cultural Sesc Quitandinha), Teresópolis, Barra Mansa and Nova Friburgo. Investments will amount to R$850,000, against R$690,000 in the previous public notice and the number of municipalities included in the schedule is greater. “This year, we have new categories, aimed at creation in dance, which include the elaboration, assembly and presentation of unpublished works and also creation and dances for children, which are shows aimed at children”, he informed Agência Brasil. the Performing Arts analyst at Sesc RJ, Camila Barbosa. She clarified that the categories of dance creation for adults and children, as well as educational actions in dance, are aimed at artists residing in the state of Rio. Dance diffusion projects and dance urbanities are open to artists from all over the country. “They have a wider scope,” she clarified. The announcement will also include audiovisual projects, such as the creation of a short film and dance in all its scopes. “The final product can be a documentary, a performance that involves body language, and, mainly, with these black bodies as protagonists”, said Camila. She also highlighted the audiovisual production for children, which can be an animation, a short film, also featuring black artists. “The public notice is aimed at increasing the participation of black men and women artists in the country. It is an affirmative action public notice in which we want to bring the work of these artists to the scene to reiterate our commitment to articulating culture, public debate and qualified spaces to strengthen the role of black artists in the field of performing arts”, sustained the Sesc RJ analyst. With this vision, the announcement was expanded, contemplating more categories, in addition to shows and performances. “Because, now, we are working with audiovisual and the children’s category. In this way, we also manage to expand the issue of employability ”, she stressed. Employability This year, around 10,000 people attended the 2022 call for proposals, with free entry. The project employed about 200 black and black professionals in direct labor to make the presentations and other activities possible. “We move this cultural scene and also strengthen these black artists and expand the cultural scene to receive the works of these protagonists”, she stressed. In 2024, the works selected in the 3rd public notice will be presented in theater and dance schools and universities, in addition to Sesc RJ units and municipal squares. The project’s proposal is to carry out educational actions in dance and cultural intermediation and also to provide exchange between techniques of artists and groups to disseminate and encourage more and more what these artists are producing. The 2022 notice – whose projects were carried out in 2023 – involved 51 presentations of shows and eight training workshops. For 2024, the expectation is to more than double that number, reaching a target of 126 presentations, workshops and lectures. “The idea is for the project to grow a lot”, Camila anticipated. She admitted, however, that this will depend on the composition of the works that Sesc RJ will receive. “I am very excited to welcome these artists,” she concluded.
