The Federal Police (PF) carried out this Thursday (29), in Rio de Janeiro, an operation against a social security fraud scheme that caused an estimated loss of R$ 1.5 million to the public coffers. Operation Phantom Four fulfills five search and seizure warrants issued by the 6th Criminal Court of Rio. According to the PF, the investigated criminal organization used false documents to improperly receive social security benefits, such as a pension for death and retirement. In the case of the death pension, the group collected data and records of deceased persons and used the information to obtain benefits from the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). Still using false documents, they opened bank accounts and made payroll loans in the maximum amount allowed by the bank. In the case of pensions, the gang reported false data to fraudulently add the time needed to obtain the benefit. The PF estimates that, with the operation, it avoided a loss of BRL 6 million to the public coffers. Those investigated will respond for the crimes of social security fraud, forgery of public documents, use of false documents and criminal organization.
