The Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, is traveling next week to Oceania, where she will closely follow the Women’s Soccer World Cup, to be held in two countries: Australia and New Zealand. The tournament takes place between the 20th of July and the 20th of August. The debut of the Brazilian women’s team will take place on the 24th, in Adelaide, Australia. In addition to supporting Brazilian players in the dispute for an unprecedented title, Ana Moser will organize a series of meetings to present the Brazilian candidacy to host the next Women’s World Cup, in 2027. The choice will be made by the International Football Federation (Fifa) only in next year. “That was the mission given by president Lula, to go to Australia, represent the government, and make all the contacts and all the conversations to make this choice viable”, highlighted the minister, in an interview after meeting with the president at the Palácio do Highland. In March of this year, Lula had already declared support for Brazil’s candidacy to host the Women’s World Cup. In addition to the Brazilian candidacy, three others are vying to host the tournament in four years’ time. One is South Africa, the other is a dual bid from Mexico and the United States (USA). And there is also the joint candidacy of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Strengthening women’s football in the country has become a priority for the management of Ana Moser, a former volleyball player with a successful career in the sport. According to her, the government should present, in the coming months, the National Strategy for the development of women’s football in the country. The program, under the responsibility of the portfolio, provides for measures to promote professional and amateur football in the country, expansion of investments and technical training for girls and women in the soccer market. Among the actions, the program intends to encourage the participation of women in management positions, in refereeing and in the technical direction of teams. It is also planned to set up specific training centers for women, with their own methodologies and pedagogical guidelines adapted to women’s needs. Until October, a diagnosis of the current situation of women’s football in the country and an action plan until 2025 for the implementation of the strategy should be published. Disputed position Ana Moser was also questioned by journalists about an alleged dispute over her position between parties in the government’s allied base in the National Congress, reported in the press. According to the minister, the meeting with Lula was her request, and not the president’s, and she did not touch on this subject either. “It did not enter our agenda, there was no indication in that sense. According to him [Lula]it’s giving me a lot of work and it’s going to take a while [para executar]. What is up to us is to continue working, the decisions [políticas] have a place to happen “, declared the Minister of Sport. Then, Ana Moser added that speculation about his departure from office is “much more in the press than in the day to day” of the government.
