Caixa Econômica Federal reported that it will release withdrawals from the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) for workers affected by heavy rains in the municipalities of Alagoas and Pernambuco. The measure had been announced on Tuesday (11) by the Minister of Development, Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger, Wellington Dias, in Maceió, when announcing the government’s actions to help families. In this type of withdrawal, the worker is entitled to withdraw the balance of the FGTS account for personal, urgent and serious needs arising from a natural disaster that has hit his/her area of residence. For this purpose, it is necessary to have a balance in the FGTS account and not have made a withdrawal for the same reason in a period of less than 12 months. According to Caixa, the maximum withdrawal amount is BRL 6,220 per FGTS account. The bank also said that it is assisting local authorities to speed up the request for authorization to release the amounts to workers residing in the affected areas. The request for access to the resource can be made at a Caixa branch or through the FGTS application, available for download on Android and IOS operating systems, in the “My withdrawals” option and select “Other withdrawal options – Public calamity”, and access the city. “After qualification, the population will be able to withdraw the FGTS digitally, easily and quickly, through the FGTS application, without the need to go to an agency. When registering the withdrawal request, it is possible to indicate a bank account of any financial institution to receive the amounts, at no cost”, informed Caixa. It is necessary to forward a photo of the identity document, proof of residence in the name of the worker, issued up to 120 days before the decree of calamity. The deadline for returning the analysis and crediting the account, if the withdrawal is approved, is five working days. For further information, workers can access the Caixa website or contact Caixa by phone 0800 726 0207.
