in English

The government of São Paulo will open the emergency shelter for the homeless population of the capital on the 13th, 14th and 15th of July – from Thursday to Saturday. The service is offered during the period of low temperatures at Pedro II Station, on Line 3 – Red of the Metro. Civil Defense Alert predicts cold and minimum temperature of 8°C in the capital of São Paulo and the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP) during the early hours of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The shelter at Pedro II station works whenever alerts are issued for temperatures equal to or lower than 10°C. The space has the capacity to house up to 100 people per day, between 7 pm and 8 am the next day. Camp beds, mattresses, blankets and warm clothing collected by the Warm Clothing Campaign, from the São Paulo Social Fund, will be made available. Chemical toilets were also installed for use by those sheltered. Those welcomed will receive marmitex at dinner, at the shelter itself, and tokens for breakfast at the Bom Prato restaurant on Rua 25 de Março. Homeless people will be able to take their animals and feed will be served, but the government reported that the shelter does not accommodate large volumes such as wagons or carts. Alcoholic beverages are also not allowed. Colder According to the Emergency Management Center (CGE) of the city of São Paulo, the next dawns will be cold. The average minimum temperature oscillates around 9°C and, in the most distant neighborhoods from the expanded center, the minimums will be lower. The thermal sensation will be even lower due to the winds. An extratropical cyclone, low pressure area, over Rio Grande do Sul generated a cold front that passed quickly last night in São Paulo, according to the CGE. During the early hours of the morning, the biggest gusts of wind reached 65 km/h at 4 am, in the region of Guarulhos airport, in Greater São Paulo. At Congonhas airport, in the south zone, the strongest winds reached 57.4 km/h at 3:34 am. Also according to the agency, these intense winds were caused by the combination of a cold front and the edge of the cyclone, which is centered on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul.
