The gusts of wind that hit the city of São Paulo this Thursday (13), due to the extratropical cyclone present in the south of the country, reached, at noon, 72.2 kilometers per hour (km/h) at the airport Congonhas, in the south zone of São Paulo. The information was given by the Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE) of the city of São Paulo. According to the Brazilian Company of Airport Infrastructure (Infraero), since the morning, six attacks were recorded due to strong winds at the airport. At 2:45 pm, there were no delayed flights. The meteorological station of Santana, in the north of São Paulo, was also hit by strong winds, with gusts of 70km/h at 10 am. At Guarulhos International Airport (Cumbica), gusts reached 62.6 km/h at 12:00 noon. According to GRU Airport, the concessionaire that manages the international airport, due to adverse weather conditions, three flights had alternate routes this morning to other airports, but have already returned to Guarulhos. At 3 pm, the airport was operating normally for take-offs and landings. The Civil Defense of São Paulo warns that the strong wind can topple trees, damage crops and bring down electrical wiring, causing interruptions in the supply of electricity and telephone communications. Wind can also damage poorly constructed housing and cause buildings to deroof. With the strong wind condition, the Civil Defense recommends people not to practice water sports or those influenced by the wind, such as surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, abseiling and rafting. Another recommendation is to seek safe shelter, avoiding trees or fragile metal roofs; keep your distance from windows, glass and sharp objects and do not work with scaffolding and metal fittings. You should also avoid parking vehicles near electrical cables, transmission towers, trees, billboards and other structures that do not look safe. Cold In addition to the strong wind, the capital of São Paulo should have cold dawns in the coming days. The Municipal Coordination of Civil Defense of São Paulo today decreed a state of alert for low temperatures throughout the capital of São Paulo. According to the Climate Emergency Management Center, the next few nights will be cold: the average minimum temperature should reach 9°C. In neighborhoods farther from the city center, temperatures should be even lower.
