President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that attacks like the one that occurred against the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, and his family members, at the airport in Rome, Italy, need to have tough responses and severe punishment, in order to inhibit the manifestations of hatred stimulated by the neo-fascism that was reborn and put into practice in Brazil. The statement was made this Wednesday (19) during a press conference shortly before the president left for Brazil. Lula participated, in Brussels, in the 3rd Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and the European Union (EU). The aggression against Moraes and his family would have been carried out by businessman Roberto Mantovani Filho and his wife, Andrea Mantovani. The case was publicized last weekend by the press. According to the reports, the group would have called the minister a “bandit and a communist”. When questioning the insults, the minister’s son was attacked by one of the accused. Moraes was in Italy to attend a lecture at the University of Siena. Lula associated the aggression with the “hatred that arose during the electoral process”. According to him, there is a “majority will among people” that this hatred be eradicated. “These people who were reborn in the neo-fascism put into practice in Brazil must be extirpated. We are going to be very tough with these people, so that they can learn to be civilized again”, said the president. “We need to severely punish people who still transmit hatred, like the citizen who attacked Minister Alexandre de Moraes at the airport in Rome. Such a citizen is a wild animal. He is not a human being. He may not agree with the person, but he doesn’t have to be aggressive, swear or disrespect,” he said.
