Anti-dumping extended for steel and carbon pipes from China and Romania

For the next five years, carbon-blend steel pipes from China and Romania will pay more to enter Brazil. The measure is part of a resolution by the Executive Management Committee (Gecex) of the Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) published this Monday (24) in the Official Gazette. According to the Official Gazette, the measure applies to carbon steel, seamless, conduction tubes (line pipe), with a diameter of up to five inches. Regarding items produced in China, US$ 743 per ton will be charged. Tubes produced in Romania will pay US$ 75.11 per ton. Legalized by the World Trade Organization (WTO), the anti-dumping tariff protects Brazilian producers from unfair competition. To put the measure into practice, the Brazilian government needs to open an investigation and prove that imported products are sold below production cost and jeopardize the survival of national industries. To decide on the extension of the anti-dumping tariff, Camex carried out investigations in the last three months. In April, the evidentiary phase of the investigation ended. In June, the technical note was presented and the deadline for submission of final statements by interested parties ended. The instruction phase of the process was completed on the 17th.
