The Olympic and Paralympic torch for the Paris 2024 Games was presented this Tuesday (25), imitating the reflection of the Eiffel Tower on the undulating surface of the River Seine and transmitting a peaceful energy, according to its creator. Mathieu Lehanneur said the rounded torch was symmetrical from top to bottom and 360 degrees, with its smooth curves representing tranquility and its symmetry representing equality between athletes. Lehanneur said he hoped the torch would convey a visual representation of the sporting event that Paris 2024 wants to stage. “I wanted to step away from the torch appearing as an object of conquest,” Lehanneur told a news conference, adding that designing the torch proved to be infinitely more technical than he initially imagined. “The magic is not the torch itself, but the flame,” he said. The torch will be lit in ancient Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Games, on April 16 next year, marking the countdown to the Games in the French capital, which begin on July 26. She will arrive in the Mediterranean port city of Marseille on May 8 and pass through towns and landmarks including Strasbourg, the Pantheon in Paris and Mont Saint-Michel before a relay through some of France’s overseas territories. Paris 2024 Games boss Tony Estanguet called the torch “very, very beautiful”. “It’s very sheer. It’s perfectly balanced in the hand,” he said. * Reproduction of this content is prohibited.
